Rie Tanaka

Rie Tanaka (田中 理恵, Tanaka Rie^?) born January 3, 1979 in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan) is a singer and voice actress (seiyū).

Among her roles are Chi and Freya in the Japanese version of Chobits, for which Rie performs both ending themes. Another one of her famous roles is Suigintou in the anime adaptation of Rozen Maiden.

As a child, Tanaka took singing classes and garnered a great deal of respect by performing in a number of concerts. After graduating high school, she joined Tokyo's popular animation company and took on singing roles for some of her characters.^{[citation needed]} She is currently very popular in Japan and is known to own a few animals, such as a kitten (rumored to know how to play the PlayStation 2^{[citation needed]}) and recently, a puppy. She is not fluent in English. Recently, Rie let her hair grow out and now only cuts her bangs.^{[citation needed]}

She has also released two albums: 24 Wishes, which contains a few Chobits songs (as well as some updated versions of those songs) and a few new tracks, and Garnet, which contains a jazz version of Kiss Kara Hajimaru Miracle, a song she performed for Koutetsu Tenshi Kurumi. She released a character song collection album, Chara de Rie, which contains 4 tracks from Chobits and Gundam Seed, and a new track. Other CD releases are Club Rie-rie 1, Club Rie-rie2, and Rie Tanaka's 100 poems by 100 poets, which all contain voice samples.

• In Gundam Seed Destiny and Chobits, the 2 pairs of characters she voices look and sound alike but have very different personalities.
• She has starred in several anime series with Toyoguchi Megumi in which their characters are part of the same teams...
  • In Burst Angel, with Rie as Sei and Megumi as Meg .
  • In Gundam Seed and Gundam Seed Destiny, with Rie as Lacus Clyne and Megumi as Miriallia Haw. (Both were members of the Three Ship Alliance / Terminal)
  • The pair also voiced characters in Chobits (with Rie as Chi, Freya and Megumi as Omura Yumi).
• She has starred alongside Hoshi Soichiro whereby her character had a hand in saving Soichiro's character.
  • In Gundam Seed, Lacus Clyne (Rie) helped nurse Kira Yamato (Soichiro) back to health after his battle with Athrun Zala.
  • In the GetBackers drama CDs, Haruki Kaoru (Rie) used her powers to heal Fuchouin Kazuki (Soichiro) and his companions. Coincidently, Kaoru's appearance and mannerisms bore some similarities to Lacus's.
• Coincidently, in the first half of Hanaukyo Maid Tai La Verite episode 5, Mariel, who was voiced by Rie, cosplays Chi of Chobits fame, who was also voiced by Rie.
• She is an avid fan of one of the characters she voices, Suigintou from Rozen Maiden, and has even cosplayed her own character.
• Rie's openly known favourite greeting sign is the rabbit-ear fingers whenever she stands in front of a camera.
• Rie's fan club is called Cafe de Rie.
• She is also a member of the Steel Angels, a singing trio composed of the three lead seiyu of Steel Angel Kurumi--Atsuko Enomoto and Masayo Kurata included, and is responsible for its opening and end themes.
• Despite her singing ability, she portreys the unexpectedly tone-deaf Koyomi in Azumanga Daioh.
