Robert Blenkinsopp (born November 20, 1984 in Birmingham, England) is a striker currently playing for David Collett Hall at Loughborough University as well as appearances for both Wolfson FC, Astra Zeneca and Paignton Saints. He is currently uncapped by his country, England, despite constant pressure from the country’s media.
He is a product of the youth system at a Torquay hotel famous throughout the English county of Devon for the production of fine young men.
Since enrolling at Loughborough University he has played for a number of teams putting in some consistent performances. His goal scoring, show boating and hair band controlled flowing locks have made him a fan’s favourite in IMS side, David Collett. During the 05/06 season he captained Radcliffe Rovers to the runners up spot in the Leisure League Charnwood Golf Club Division. Even though he finished the season joint top goalscorer he wasn't voted players or fans player of the year, however, praise was heaped upon him with player manager Matthew Walker described him as "the driving force behind the team" as well as club gmp and chairmain Richard "Besty" Best called him "consistently consistent" and "influentially influential". However like all good players he has not been without his critics as well he was labelled 'a selfer' ‘in it for his own glory’ and ‘a waste of sperm’. He is also so one footed he regularly runs round in circles. This has been rubbished by his agent and by all those associated with the clubs he playes for but is still bought up regularly for bant.
Rob puts his success down to a good grounding at a young age playing for St Huberts FC and Cuthbert Mayne 6th Form as a youngster before his apprenticeship for Little House FC under the late great Roger Mann. He also puts it down to the players he has been lucky to play with so far in his career, including one Jack Boatman. It has been touted by press the two have had training ground bust ups over Boatmans controversial comments in the media, however Blenkinsopp insists that Boatman is a good friend but has said "there is a thin line between brilliance and idiocy, and Boat is balancing on that line"
It has however been noted by fans and the media alike that Blenkinsopp is not able to take a game by the scruff of the neck and dominate in the same way as Boatman does. However Boatman regularly relies on the professionalism of close friend Blenkinsopp to calm his temper as well to produce when Boatman "doesn't feel like it" or has had a heavy Hey Ewe/FND. The debate rages over who is the better player in a similar way to the discussions of Gerrard/Lampard.
Blenkinsopp is currently plying his trade for David Collett IMS, Astra Zeneca FC and Wolfson FC, however Rob has always made it clear that his heart is at his home club Paignton Saints, under the unique managerial partnership of Justin "Ginge" "The Special One" Yates and David Duke. In a recent interview for BBC Sport Blenkinsopp was questioned on manager and midfielding dynamo known affectionately as 'Ginge'. He commented on his enthusiasm and understanding for the game, but pointed out however his banter is shocking and stamina is questionnable. There are reports that Blenkinsopp could return to Paignton Saints currently topping the WBW Division 2 league in Torbay, who are hoping to get him back for the run in of their season.
[edit] Notes
Just to add, I would like to say that the claims of him being a selfer are definately true, having played with and against him i can guarantee you that he is also one footed......dont try and use your standing foot billy.
That brings me to another point, I think that 'Billy Elliot' should be added to his list on nicknames
All the best Rob,
Gary Rivers
HA HA!!!!
