I suggest that this article remain separate from the article on the Roman Catholic diocese of Bathurst as they were very different bodies. Technically the latter was a successor to the former, but the switch in locales represented a recognition of fact that the French were becoming numerically superior. The Irish were tending to emigrate to Boston and the state of Washington. The change occasioned some ill will and it took years for feelings to abate.
The article deals with the period when the Irish were ascendent.
