Roy Rogers cocktail
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Roy Rogers is a non-alcoholic cocktail (or mocktail) made with cola soda (such as Coca-Cola) and grenadine syrup, garnished with a maraschino cherry. It is sometimes referred to as a "Darth Vader"; however, in recent years, both this name and the original "Roy Rogers" have given way to the term "grenadini." It is considered an acceptable cocktail drink for children (since there is no alcohol). For this reason, it may also be called a kiddie cocktail or simply a homemade Cherry Coke.
It was named for the cowboy actor and singer Roy Rogers.
[edit] Pop Culture
- In the movie Awakenings, one of the patients orders a Roy Rogers when she learns Prohibition has ended. The nurse then tells the bartender to make it a virgin Roy Rogers. This is somewhat odd for two reasons- 1), Roy Rogers and other mocktails were popular during Prohibition, and 2) A Roy Rogers contains no alcohol to begin with. This is the official way to make a Roy Rogers so Abner should just shut up and admit defeat.
