Russ Hiebert (born February 8, 1969) is the Canadian Member of Parliament for South Surrey—White Rock—Cloverdale. He was born in Steinbach, Manitoba, has an MBA and a law degree from the University of British Columbia and is also a practicing lawyer.
In 2004 he won the nomination to represent the newly rebranded Conservative Party in a hard fought nomination process against then-incumbent MP Val Meredith, who had held the riding as an Alliance and Reform Party member since 1993. At the time of the nomination, Hiebert didn't live in the riding and there were accusations that he sold Conservative Party memberships to hundreds of members of local evangelical churches.
During his first term as MP, Hiebert served on the Ethics and Privacy Committee, formed and co-chaired the all party Border Caucus, and co-chaired the Conservative Party Task Force on Safe Streets and Healthy Communities.
Hiebert is a strong supporter of "traditional values", including public opposition to abortion and same-sex marriage. On Jan 29, 2005 over 300 people attended a rally in front of his constituency office in support of the traditional definition of marriage.
On January 23, 2006, Hiebert was re-elected to the House of Commons. On February 8, 2006, Hiebert was appointed Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of National Defence, Gordon O'Connor.
