I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or place {{helpme}}

If you are interested in Ukraine-related themes, you may want to check out the Ukraine Portal, particularly the Portal:Ukraine/New article announcements and Portal:Ukraine/Ukraine-related Wikipedia notice board. The New article announcements board is probably the most important and the most attended one. Please don't forget to anounce there the new articles you create. Adding both boards to your watchlist is probably a good idea.
Finally, in case you are interested, similar boards exist at Russia portal as many editors contribute to topics related to both countries. The respective boards there are: Portal:Russia/New article announcements and Portal:Russia/Russia-related Wikipedia notice board. Of course there are also many other portals at Wikipedia or you may just get right into editing.
Again, welcome!--Irpen 05:10, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ukraine
I would like to give you an explanation on why I reverted most of your changes to the demographics section of the Ukraine article.
- You inserted: "But according to socialogical polls the portions of speakers of both languages are nearly equal." Please note that this very topic, discrepancy between the census data and the real life usage is explained right below with references and links making your phrase redundant. Most importantly, your statement is unsourced. You probably know that the topic is sensitive and we cannot have strong statements unsourced
- "Russian schools are "Ukrainizied" in all wesrtern and northern regions of Ukraine (except a few schools in Kiev and Lviv)." Again, this is somewhat redundant as the very previous phrase speaks about switching of schools. Moreover, Ukraine is the most general article about the country. Going to any breadth of the topics should be done in narrower articles which we have and plenty. Attending the portal, you will find some of such articles or you can browse the cats, or you can just ask.
- For the similar reason the phrase: "Still sometimes Russian language is prohibited to use in schools [1]" is unacceptable. First, you reference points to a unreliable site. You should have at least used the link to the original article[2] that you could have found by googling. Most importantly, there is no indication that this crazy and shameful incident is typical to be used for the generalization and especially in such a broad scope article as Ukraine. There is a narrower article devoted to the issue called Ukrainization but I would like to strongly caution you against starting to play with such controversial and difficult article without giving it too much thought AND without setting aside sufficient time to read talk and archives and be prepared to discuss the issue at the article's talk. The Wp:bb#…but don't be reckless! section of the WP:BE BOLD guideline write specifically about such articles: "An incautious edit to such an article can be likened to stirring up a hornet's nest, and other users who are involved in the page may react angrily."
That said, please take this friendly advise gracefully and help us build Wikipedia by adding content to the existing articles and writing the new ones. Regards, --Irpen 05:10, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, noted, thank you for your explanation. I`m a novice here. With respect to you, Russianname 12:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
