"Sad" is a song by Pearl Jam. It was released on their 2003 B-sides and rarities album Lost Dogs. The song was a Binaural outtake.
"Sad" was originally titled "Letter To The Dead" and was included on the original tracklisting for Binaural. The song was leaked in 2003 months before it was finally released on Lost Dogs. Compared with the leaked version, the Lost Dogs version has a slight lyric change in the opening line.
When Eddie Vedder talked about the song at their July 20, 2006 show in Portland, he stated that while working on the song's music he thought it sounded like part of a Sleater-Kinney song. He proceeded to say "that's why it sounded good."[1]
[edit] Lyrical meaning
In the liner notes for Lost Dogs, Vedder states that it is the "other side" to Jeff Ament's song "Other Side".
