Detective Inspector Samantha Nixon is a character in the ITV Drama The Bill. Sam first arrived in Sun Hill in 2002. As DI Nixon is a CID officer she does not have a callsign and in radio communications is simply referred to as "DI Nixon". Sam is played by Lisa Maxwell.
Sam's daughter Abigail has always been a source of concern for her - over the last 4 years she has lost her virginity at 15 to one of Sam's colleagues, been abducted and given birth at 17. Abi herself was daughter of a convicted childkiller. Sam kept this knowledge from her for a long time and it was one of the causes of the rift between them
Sam is an ambitious person eager for promotion, she served as Acting DI for a year and was devastated when the post was given to DI Neil Manson. However, she was given the job permanently in January 2007, working alongside DI Manson.
For a long time, there was a hint of attraction between Sam and her colleague DS Phil Hunter. However, it was not until late 2006, shortly after Sam ended her relationship with DS Stuart Turner and Sam and Phil were sent together on a joint operation to Romania that for a short time there was more than friendship between them. Despite Sam breaking off the relationship because she feared Phil being unfaithful, the pairing is still one of the most popular in the world of fan fiction.
