San Pietro a Patierno

San Pietro a Patierno is a north-eastern suburb of Naples with a population of ca. 20,000. Historically, the area a feudal holding under the Angevin rule of Naples in the Middle Ages and called by its Latin name, "San Petrus ad Peternum." It was abolished as a fief by Murat in the early 1800s and finally incorporated into the city of Naples during the Fascist period. It is one of the largest suburbs of Naples and has a relatively low population density compared to surrounding areas. The suburb contains the Naples airport of Capodichino, the "Ugo Niutti" Italian military airport, and the US Naval Support Activity.
