San Rufo
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
San Rufo is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Salerno, in the Italian region of Campania, located at an altitude of 640 m (2105ft) a.s.l. It has a population of approx. 1920 inhabitants and an area of 31.6 km².[citation needed]
The municipality of San Rufo contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) of Fontana Vaglio. San Rufo borders the following municipalities: Corleto Monforte, San Pietro Al Tanagro, Teggiano, Sant’Arsenio.
The origin of San Rufo is not sure, but it is probably going back to the 13th century.
The area around San Rufo is very interesting from the archaeological point of view. Unfortunately it has been saved little of the artistic patrimony of the city, but there are still some remains of the ancient castle and the town center contains some interesting buildings from the 17th and 18th century.
Like other small towns in this area, the territory of San Rufo sees the prevalence of arboreal vegetation.
