Scottish Qualifying Cup
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Scottish Qualifying Cup is a football competition played in Scotland. It is the only way for non-league teams to qualify for the Scottish Cup. The Qualifying Cup is open to all members of the Scottish Football Association, who are not members of the Scottish Premier League or Scottish Football League.

[edit] Structure
The current competition is divided into two sections; The Qualifying Cup (North) and Qualifying Cup (South). Teams play each other within the North/South regions in a knockout format where teams are drawn against each other randomly. In the draw, the team who is drawn first from each tie is the home team. If the first match finishes a draw then a replay is played at the ground of the second team. In the replay, if the scores are still level, extra time is played and penalties to decide the winner of the tie.
The four teams which reach the semi-finals (last four) in each region qualify automatically for the Scottish Cup. Hence, eight non-league teams qualify each year for the Scottish Cup.
