The first song off Flogging Molly's fourth studio album, Screaming At The Wailing Wall, serves as a critique of United States President George W. Bush's tendency to invoke God while waging an aggressive foreign policy [1]. The song's lyrics are notable for their parallelism: in addition to speaking to American international presence, they can also act as a lament of the internal conflict that has waged in Northern Ireland in the past decades. For example, the line "Once the communist, now the terrorist, with blood as thick as yours" references both the transition of America's aggression from Soviet communism during the Cold War to fundamentalist Islamic terrorism in the War on Terror and the early Marxist positions of the Irish Republican Army prior to its evolution into the largely terroristic organization active in Northern Ireland during the Troubles.
