Sebree, Kentucky

Sebree is a city in Webster County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 1,558 at the 2000 census. The town is named for Colonel E. G. Sebree, who founded it in 1868.[1]

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there were 1,558 people, 573 households, and 374 families residing in the city. The population density was 371.3/km² (959.5/mi²). There were 627 housing units at an average density of 149.4/km² (386.2/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 93.77% White, 0.64% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 5.01% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 11.30% of the population.
There were 573 households out of which 31.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 48.0% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 28.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.54 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the city the population was spread out with 23.3% under the age of 18, 11.6% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 20.0% from 45 to 64, and 17.3% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.5 males.
The median income for a household in the city was $29,663, and the median income for a family was $35,221. Males had a median income of $21,379 versus $18,438 for females. The per capita income for the city was $14,339. About 17.4% of families and 22.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 31.9% of those under age 18 and 12.4% of those age 65 or over.
