In 2000, the Portuguese sports newspaper Record released a list with what were considered the 100 Best in Portuguese Football (in Portuguese, 100 Melhores do Futebol Português). The list was released in two books, with each containing 50 players, with Eusébio on the cover of Vol. 1 and Luís Figo on the cover of Vol. Both the players are also the first on the respective books, while all the others are ordered alphabetically. There are still nine players on the list who are still active. Due to the list being made in 2002, it doesn't include recent players such as Deco or Cristiano Ronaldo, who would probably be in the list if it was updated.

Each player has a number of pages dedicated to him, ranging from two to eight in the case of Eusébio and Figo. There is a description about the player style of play, biographical data, season-by-season stats and the list of every game played by the Portuguese national football team, along with pictures of the players.
