Template:SI unit lowercase
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
![]() |
This SI unit is named after [[{{{1}}}]]. As for all SI units whose names are derived from the proper name of a person, the first letter of its symbol is uppercase ({{{3}}}). But when an SI unit is spelled out, it should always be written in lowercase ({{{2}}}), unless it begins a sentence or is the name "degree Celsius".
— Based on The International System of Units, section 5.2.

- Usage of the template
- {{SI unit lowercase|Blaise Pascal|pascal|Pa}}.
- Rationale for the template
- These are important SI-related rules that many get wrong, so it is better we make them systematically conspicuous. Using the lowercase template would be incorrect, since SI units behave like all other common nouns. The SI explicitly states that they can be capitalised at the beginning of sentences and in titles.
