This piece barely scratches the surface in terms of what the Gran Sasso offers -- an area I know and love as it is very close to Rome. I would appreciate it if anyone editing this section would do their research ahead of time. I expanded the section on environmental groups who fought construction of the tunnels. This was a major issue in Italy. The danger of earthquakes here is very high, not the best location for a nuclear laboratory. Also the hike described, which I did not touch, is not a major event and I don't know why it is included.
