[edit] Basic Information
Ski is an orange and lemon flavored soft drink using actual orange and lemon concentrates manufactured by the Double Cola Company.
Some liken Ski’s unique citrus flavor to Mountain Dew, Mello Yello or Squirt.
Due to usage of real orange juice and lemon concentrates, the Double-Cola Company claims that Ski is one of the only all-natural sodas.[1]
[edit] History
The Double Cola Company originally created Ski in 1956 and trademarked the soda in 1958.[2]
From the original pictures, it appears as though Ski’s name is associated originally with water skiing.[2]
Another type of ski, Cherry Ski, was added to the product line thanks to the creativity in Breese, IL, a location for the [Excel Bottling Company (http://www.excelbottling.com/)], a Ski bottler. In Breese, Ski can be found on tap at [Wally’s Drive In (http://stlouis.citysearch.com/profile/35321972)] and [Dairy King (http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Dairy.King.618-526-4321)].
In 1999, the Ski can was redesigned and reads, “Taste the Wake”.[2] Truman State University alum and recovering ski-addict Jeremy Jordan equates this saying to conveying a double meaning. First, “Taste the Wake” could be referring to the wake you might taste while water skiing. Secondly, due to Ski’s incredibly high caffeine content, you could simply “Taste the Wake” in actually tasting yourself wake up.[3] However, it is uncertain if the company intended this double meaning.
