Slurm is a fictional soft drink originating from the animated series Futurama. It is popular, highly addictive and is Fry's favorite beverage. It is widely available throughout the universe. Slurm delivery trucks and advertisements can be frequently spotted, including in the Futurama opening credits (shortly before the Planet Express delivery ship crashes into the billboard).
Slurm's most popular slogan is "It's highly addictive!"
Slurm has a very active marketing campaign, similar to leading soft drinks today. It was spearheaded by the party worm Slurms MacKenzie, a parody of Spuds MacKenzie, until his death. The campaign's theme music is an instrumental version of "I've Got A Tan," by The Four Postmen.

[edit] Production
Slurm is made on the planet Wormulon. Fry once won a contest for a free tour of the factory[1], which was a direct parody of the facility in the movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, complete with Grunka Lunkas (a parody of Oompa-Loompas), who sing songs which discourage asking questions about Slurm or "you might get your legs broke". On further exploration, Fry, Leela and Bender discovered the factory was a sham and the oft-mentioned "secret ingredient" of Slurm (in fact, its only ingredient) is the secretion of a giant worm, the Slurm Queen. The trio were captured, with the Slurm Queen placing each in a diabolical trap - Bender would be fed through a machine to convert him into Slurm cans; Fry would be given a super-concentrated form of Slurm that would addict him into eating until he exploded; and Leela would be submerged in "royal Slurm" (apparently similar to the royal jelly used by bees) that would mutate her into another Slurm Queen. When it was pointed out that Leela being a "commoner" would cause the Slurm she produced to "taste foul", the Slurm Queen explained that they would market this as "New Slurm", then change back to "Slurm Classic" with increased sales, in parody of conspiracy theories about New Coke.
Fry (barely) overcame his addiction to rescue Leela and Bender letting the trio, with the help of Slurms MacKenzie, escape Wormulon. Authorities (the Bureau of Soft Drinks, Tobacco, and Firearms, a parody of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives) were alerted, but when Fry realized that this would halt sale of Slurm (to which he remained addicted), he sabotaged the effort and the warning was dismissed.
[edit] Possible origins
- Slurm bears a striking resemblance to Surge, the now discontinued soft drink made by Coca-Cola. Both Slurm and Surge are green in color and have similar logos.
- Slurm is a possible parody of the addictive "spice" found in Frank Herbert's sci-fi epic Dune, which is also produced by large worms.
- "Slurm" is a green worm/slug-like creature found in Final Fantasy VI.
- "Slurm" is a sniglet written by Rich Hall. It is defined as: Slurm, n.: The slime that accumulates on the underside of a soap bar when it sits in the dish too long. -- Rich Hall, "Sniglets"
- Slurm's secret ingredient may be a parody of Coca-Cola which also contains a 'secret ingredient' which isn't listed on their products
