Sohrab
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sohrab or Suhrab (Persian: سهراب) is one of Shahnama's characters. His story is told in Rostam and Sohrab. He was the son of Rostam (Shahnama's greatest hero) and Tahmineh (daughter of the king of Samangan). He was born and grew up in Samangan (Samangan Province in what is now Afghanistan), whilst his father was in Iran.
He became a great local hero and decided to go to Iran and make his father the king of Iran. Afrasiab, the Turanian king, took the opportunity and supplied him with a great army. Finally Sohrab was killed by his father Rostam, while both were ignorant of the identity of one another.
In Shahname it is told that when Sohrab was just 1 month old he looked like a 12-year-old child.
