Solu Music is a New York based record label and house music producing duo created by Howie Caspe and Dano Nathanson.
[edit] History
Caspe and Nathanson in the spring of 1998 when Caspe (keyboards) joined Nathanson (guitar) in the already existent and popular R&B/Funk/Soul cover band, Lippsmackadee.
During the two years in the band, Caspe & Nathanson forged a strong friendship and working relationship. They soon realised that they were musical counterparts and left Lippsmackadee to focus on their own original projects.
The first project they set out on was a 14 piece neo-soul band called Frodisi. The project was up and running for about 6 months. Caspe and Nathanson had pictured Frodisi becoming the hottest band in NYC, but the tough rehearsal schedule and large size of the band made it impossible to get off the ground. Caspe and Nathanson decided they needed a project where they would solely rely on each other. Out of that idea, New York based record label Solu Music was born.
Influenced by soul singers, jazz musicians, worldly beats, African rhythms, emotional songwriters, and underground DJ's, Caspe and Nathanson got into the studio and started coming up with ideas.
Solu Music made a huge impact on the house scene with their first release, "Fade" feat. Kimblee. "Fade" quickly caught the attention of DJ legend Francois K and was exclusively licensed by Wave Music. This deal put Solu Music on the global radar, and the immense success set the tone for all future Solu Music releases.
Fade, despite initially being an underground track, has hit the pop charts in many countries and continues to be a global floor filler to this day - an unusal feat for a funky house track. It's popularity amongst the commercial crowd was somewhat enhanced by a strong backing by the mighty DJ that is Pete Tong.
Solu Music has grown temendously since the 2001 release of Fade. The licensing and purchasing of tracks to expand the Solu Music catalogue, producing and obtaining remixes for/from some of dance music's finest, and the the signing of the sultry and soulful Kai Martin have helped Solu Music maintain and grow it's global audience.
Since then, Solu Music have released countless tracks, albums and remixes, as well as having performed countless live sets all over the world. "Affirmation" is probably their most notable album to date.
Solu Music was formed with one intention, to put out music that people feel, rather than just listen to. Music to move your mind, body, and soul. To date, every original Solu Music release has been written, arranged, and produced by Caspe and Nathanson.
