[edit] SPANGLER HISTORY
It started back in 1906 when Arthur Spangler acquired the Gold Leaf Baking Powder for $450, and moved the operation to his hometown of Bryan, Ohio, where he changed the name to Spangler Manufacturing Co., and continued making baking powder, baking soda, cornstarch, laundry starch, spices, and flavoring.
At the request of his younger brother Ernest, a candy jobber in nearby Toledo, they decided to add other candy items and in 1911 acquired the rights to a popular coconut item. Arthur hired the man who created the product, moved him to Bryan and introduced the Spangler Cocoanut Ball - Spangler's first candy brand.
Shortly thereafter, Omar Spangler joined the firm in 1914. Omar's specialty was accounting. He left the Williams County Telephone Co., where he had been manager, to join his brothers.
For a short time at the very beginning of the company's history, Spangler actually bottled a line of soda-pop beverages. These embossed Spangler bottles are extremely rare and collectable in today's market.
