St Ninian's Centre, Crieff
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The St Ninian's Centre (1960-2001) in Crieff, Perthshire was a Church of Scotland conference centre. It was converted from the former Crieff West Parish Church in 1960 (Crieff West and Creiff North Parish Churches had united in 1957). It was extensively used by church groups - both day and residential.
By the 1990s use of the centre was declining and the facilities were in need of modernisation. In 2000 the Church of Scotland's Board of National Mission proposed the closure of the centre. There was considerable protest at the General Assembly, which eventually resolved to set up a Special Commission. The Commission reported in 2001; the General Assembly then duly authorised the closure of the centre the same year. Proposals to continue to use building as as a Christian conference centre were explored, but ultimately without success.
