Story Of I (1976) |
Out In The Sun (album (1977) |
Story Of I is the title of a 1976 album by former Yes keyboard player Patrick Moraz. After the success of Relayer each Yes member decided to make a solo album. Story Of I is Moraz's first solo album whilst also being a concept album. Story Of I is considered to be Moraz's strongest album.
The album tells a story of a massive tower in middle of a jungle. The tower lures people from all over the world towards it. Inside the tower people are able to experience their wildest desires and fantasies. The only rule is that the people inside the tower may not fall in love with each other. Two persons inside however do so and decide to escape, since the tower acts also as a prison, which inhabitants are slave of their own desire.
The album consists of fourteen relatively short songs each following and depicting the story. The album is strongly influenced by brazilian world music. This is in particular heard in wild and energetic percussion. Story Of I received many warm reviews and was chosen as the album of the year by Keyboard Magazine.

[edit] Trivia
- Jon Anderson actually was slightly involved making Story Of I. While Anderson and Moraz were on tour with Yes they saw an old and massive tower. They started to think what was inside the tower and invented many interesting theories which they shared with each other. Moraz later told his ideas and thoughs about the tower and his solo album to Anderson, who encouraged him to do it. This way the concept for Story Of I was invented.
