Surgeon General

Surgeon General can have several different meanings.
In the United States:
- The Surgeon General of the United States is the chief medical officer and seniormost official of the Public Health Service Commissioned Corps of the U.S. Public Health Service (a component of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).
- Many states in the United States, and many other government entities, also have a Surgeon General serving a similar role.
- The medical services of the U.S.Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force are each headed by a Surgeon General.
- Surgeon General of the United States Army
- Surgeon General of the United States Navy
- Surgeon General of the United States Air Force
In the United Kingdom:
- The Surgeon-General is the senior medical officer of the British Armed Forces. The post is held by the senior of the three individual service medical directors and carries the rank of surgeon vice-admiral, lieutenant-general or air marshal. (The British and Irish equivalents of the Surgeon General of the United States are known as Government Chief Medical Officers).
