The Sydney Uni Lions is one of the foundation teams of the NSW Gridiron Football League (founded as the Stormtroopers in 1984, adopting the University of Sydney's official Lions mascot in 1985) and is the only team to have competed in every season of the competition since its inception in 1984. The Lions have established an enviable winning tradition, making it through to 17 Championship games in 23 years of competition and winning 8 state titles, including the last four in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
The Club's Colts team, the Cubs, was also a foundation team of the Junior Competition in 1994 and has built its own winning tradition. The Cubs have won five state championships in 13 years of competition, the last in 2002.
The Lions and Cubs are proud to be members of the oldest and largest sporting organization in Australia, Sydney Uni Sport. The club secured Gold Medals in 1999 and 2000 at the Eastern Australian University Games (the only years Gridiron has been contested).
