The 'taluk' or 'taluka' or 'talook' is a term used in various native languages of India to denote the revenue districts. This term has also been universally used with the same meaning in Indian government records.
A slightly different meaning given by some of the dictionaries is "A large estate; especially, one constituting a revenue district or dependency the native proprietor of which is responsible for the collection and payment of the public revenue due from it'.
