Tamatoa-a-tu (Tamatoa V)

Prince Tamatoa-a-tu (Tamatoa V), Ari'i-rahi of Ra'iatea and Taha'a was born 23 September 1842 in Moe'area. Son of Moe-'ore Teri'i Tino-rua Te-ari'i Noho-ra'i Ari'i-rahi of Ra'iatea and Huahine. Adopted by Tamatoa IV Ari'i-rahi of Ra'iatea and Taha'a and succeeded on the death of his father 19 August 1857 and crowned at Opoa by The Rev. Platt, 1 December 1860. Deposed 1871. He became the prince consort of Tahiti married twice to Moe Ma-hea-nu'u-a-Mai (Princess Moe-a-Mai) and to Queen Pomare IV of Tahiti. He died at Ra'iatea, 30 September 1881 and had one son and five daughters.
