Tazacorte is a municipality in the Canary Islands in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is situated on the western coast of the island of La Palma. Tazacorte is linked with the highway that encircles the whole island as well as a road to the eastern half of the island and is located west of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and WNW of the Las Palmas Airport.
The population is 5,797 (ISTAC, 2004), its density is 514.37/km² and the area is 11/27 km²/1,127 ha. The elevation is 60 m. The name of inhabitants are known as Bagañete.
Farmlands dominate the western and the central parts as well as the coastline, forests dominate the eastern part as well as grasslands, mountains and the valley of Aridane Valley with bushes at the cliffs and farmlands to the lower parts are to the north and to the east. The majority of the population are rural.

The population between 1991 and 1996 grew but in 2001 fell to 5,062 but it recuperated not to the 1996 population but at 6,180 but fell afterwards and a little more in the 2004 census.
