Tetrazolium chloride

Tetrazolium chloride is a redox indicator commonly used in biochemical experiments especially to indicate cellular respiration. It is a white crystalline powder, soluble in water, ethanol and acetone but insoluble in ether. It has a partition coefficient:LogP(octanol/water) of -2.4.
The IUPAC name for the substance is 2,3,5-Triphenyl-2H-tetrazolium chloride and it has the formula C19H15ClN4. The compound with the CAS-Number [298-96-4] has a molecular weight of 334.8 g/mol.
