E-JASL: The Electronic Journal of Academic and Special Librarianship is an independent, professional, peer-reviewed electronic journal dedicated first and foremost to advancing knowledge and research in the areas of academic and special libraries]]. E-JASL is committed to covering all aspects of academic and special librarianship without regard to region or country. E-JASL is, also, committed to the principles of open access for all academic research regardless of subject. E-JASL is published and distributed by the International Consortium for the Advancement of Academic Publication (ICAAP) in Athabasca, Alberta, Canada, under the auspices of Athabasca University, a leader in open education. The ICAAP was acknowledged by Lisa Gurnsey in the Chronicle of Higher Education (1998) as being the first large-scale, scholar-led open access project on the Web.
E-JASL, originally named the Journal of Southern Academic and Special Librarianship (JSASL), was co-founded in 1999 by Paul G. Haschak , Elizabeth Dickerson , and Adam Chandler. In 2002, JSASL changed its name to E-JASL to reflect its international scope and international readership. E-JASL is permanently archived by the ICAAP at Athabasca University and, independently, by the Library and Archives Canada, formerly the National Library of Canada, in their "Electronic Publications Collection." E-JASL is listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals. E-JASL is indexed and abstracted by LISA (Library and Information Science Abstracts) beginning with volume 5. Additionally, E-JASL is indexed by Library Literature and Information Science beginning with volume 1. Today, E-JASL continues to grow The current editors are Paul G. Haschak and Jean Caswell.
