"The Beginning" is the first episode of Samurai Jack's first season. It was shown as a feature length episode with "The Samurai Called Jack" and "The First Fight", which was then released as "Samurai Jack: The Premiere Movie". The episode aired on August 10, 2001.

The episode begins with Aku awakening, stating that he will again wreak terror on the world. He attacks Jack's homeland, easily crushing all resistance. However, Jack's family, having prepared for this day, sends Jack away with a magical sword, and he trains in many distant lands so that he may return and battle with the evil Aku. Years later, he returns and battles Aku, and eventually manages to gain the upper hand, but before he can destroy him, Aku opens a portal that engulfs Jack. Aku states that they will meet again in the future, and that Jack will not be so lucky next time.
