The Best Damn Thing is the third album by Pop rock singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne and is currently scheduled to be released on April 17, 2007. The album is said to be less mellow than previous Lavigne albums, and more upbeat. Avril described the record as: "fast, fun, young, bratty, aggressive, confident, cocky in a playful way...all the good stuff."
On Thursday, February 1, 2007 Dr. Luke said that the album version of "Keep Holding On" will be different from the Eragon version. On that same day, a press release containing the album's official cover was issued[1].
On February 18, 2007, AOL posted previews of three songs on the album: "Everything Back But You", "I Can Do Better", and "When You're Gone".
The album will bear the Parental Advisory label because the term "motherfucking" is used in the track "Girlfriend", as well as many other anticipated instances of profanity, specifically in the song "Everything Back But You". It will be Lavigne's first album in the U.S. to bear the label, but in some markets the label was used on Under My Skin.[1]
On March 20, 2007, AOL posted a 30-second preview of the B-side "Alone", which will feature on the "Girlfriend" single.
On March 21, 2007, the album became available for pre-order on the Irish and United Kingdom iTunes Stores with release dates of 13 and April 16 respectively.
On March 25, 2007, Girlfriend got to #3 on the UK Singles Chart on downloads alone, rising 20 places from the last time it appeared in the UK Top 75, at #3. This is her highest chart position in the UK so far since her first single, Complicated.
Alone was made available for download on the iTunes Store in New Zealand and Australia on March 29.

The first official single from the album is "Girlfriend". The song premiered on Ottawa radio station Hot 89.9 on the morning of February 7, 2007. Dr. Luke said the song is not-too-serious, but fun and poppier than most stuff that Avril has done, and that it is upbeat. "Girlfriend" was leaked on to the internet on February 5, 2007. The song is available on iTunes. This will be Avril's first CD single in North America since "Fall to Pieces" in 2005.
The song "Keep Holding On" (which Avril re-recorded for the album), which Avril wrote for the soundtrack of the movie Eragon was also released as a radio single and peaked very well on the US and Canadian charts. The single is doing extremely well on the radio charts still. No physical single of the song was released.
The music video for "Girlfriend" leaked onto the internet on February 23, 2007. It is available for watching in the French Yahoo! as well as YouTube. The video went on sale in iTunes on March 3, 2007.
The song "Girlfriend" is available in seven other languages on the iTunes Store. Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese, Italian, German and French. They can each be bought either Clean or Explicit.
"Girlfriend" has peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100, the next week moving down to #9. As of March 23, 2007, "Girlfriend" is positioned at #8, and moving up to #7.
[edit] Trivia
