The Gailer School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Gailer School is an American coeducational day school and college preparatory school in Middlebury, Vermont for grades seven through twelve. Founded by Harry Chaucer, the school is an experiment in progressive education.
The school began in 1989 with Chaucer, a former high school science teacher, sitting in his living room with eight students and discussed the origin of the universe, evolution and human civilization.
Named for Leonardo da Vinci, the school's educational program is historically based, beginning with the origin of the universe and extending to contemporary times. The Da Vinci curriculum stresses inductive reasoning and interdisciplinary learning. Classes include seminar-based discussions, lectures, student presentations, field work and group projects.
From 1998 to 2006 the school was located in Shelburne, Vermont.
