Lauren Conrad's journey to independence begins as she moves to Los Angeles, interns for Teen Vogue, and meets up with her then ex-boyfriend, Jason Wahler. After an unsuccessful semester at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, she is determined to make time in Los Angeles and at Teen Vogue work. She was offered an internship in Paris for the summer but turned it down to pursue her relationship with Jason Wahler. This relationship ended making Lauren regret she turned down this opportunity of a life time. In March of 2007 Perezhilton.com reported that Lauren has made a sex tape with her ex boyfriend Jason Wahler.
Heidi Montag, Lauren's friend, appeared in the penultimate episode of the second season of Laguna Beach, helping with Lauren's fashion show. After living in San Francisco for a year, she moved with Lauren to Los Angeles to attend Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, but realized that school "isn't for [her]." She dropped out of school when she found her dream job working at an event-planning agency, but soon finds that it isn't the dream life she expected. Heidi also finds a boyfriend named Spencer who Lauren doesn't like, forming some problems in Season 2. Season 2 ends with Heidi moving out of her appartment she shared with Lauren and moving in with boyfriend Spencer.
Audrina Patridge is Heidi's first new friend in Los Angeles and lives in the same apartment complex that they do. Audrina has a steady job, but aspires to be an actress. She is also determined to find a boyfriend that is right for her. In the second season, Heidi's boyfriend Spencer, while still dating Heidi, offers to take Audrina on several dates, but she refuses his advances. However, Heidi believes Audrina is the one coming on to Spencer and gives her the cold shoulder, refusing to invite Audrina to her birthday party. They do however, make up, and form an even stronger friendship. But later both of them drift apart and Lauren and Audrina become really good friends. Season 2 ends with Lauren and Audrina becoming roommates.
Whitney Port is Lauren's friend and fellow intern at Teen Vogue. She always lends an ear to Lauren when she needs it and has proven to be a trustworthy friend. But she eventually finds that her internship will require more than just sitting at a desk as she gets the chance to model on the catwalk for the very first time and has also gotten a summer internship in Paris for Teen Vogue.

[edit] Season two
Episode 1 - "Out With The Old..."- first aired on January 15, 2007 (U.S.), February 5, 2007 (Canada).
Now that Lauren and Jason have called it quits, Lauren's faced with the unfortable task of returning his things. When the former boyfriend asks if they can still be buddies, Lauren argues that things will never be the same.
At Epic Records, Audrina has Heidi on redial at her new gig. But while Audrina can't seem to understand why Heidi has her in deep freeze, Heidi opts to ignore her now former friend. After getting a little too comfortable with Heidi's new guy, Spencer, Audrina's positioned herself as public enemy number one.
Back at Teen Vogue, Lauren makes her first appearance since the end of the semester. While Whitney gushes about her trip to Paris, Lauren admits that her summer with Jason didn't quite roll out according to plan. When Lisa Love calls the girls in her office, the Teen Vogue editor rubs some more salt in Lauren's break-up wounds by offering Whitney next summer's intern spot in the city of love.
Crushed at the apartment, Lauren cries to Heidi. While she had hoped that leaving Jason would stop a constant stream of crying, it's proven to have cranked open the tear factory even more. Heidi tries to help by telling her she's now a hot commodity among the guys, but Lauren's still mourning the loss of her best friend.
Heidi's new fling, Spencer, takes her on a date to his favorite restaurant, Don Antonio's. When she broaches the Audrina topic, Spencer is quick to say how weird she is, claiming he's only feeling the 'friend vibe' from her direction. But smooth talker Spencer is singing a different tune when he hangs out with Audrina the next day and offers to take her to Don Antonio's on a date.
At the Area opening, Heidi mans the door while friends Lauren and Jen take in the club's eye candy. To Heidi's surprise, Spencer strolls in with Audrina in tow. Although he tells Heidi that they didn't arrive together, Spencer spends the whole night at her ex-friend's side.
A furious Heidi recaps the evening at Bolthouse the next morning, saying their relationship is non-existent. She begs out of work early, having felt nauseous and dizzy for the past couple of days. Meanwhile, at Epic, Audrina calls Spencer a pig, saying she's not interested despite his hands-on effort to win her over.
While Heidi makes her way home, it looks as though she may not be sick over Spencer. As she walks to the bathroom with pregnancy test in her hand, the Spencer love triangle becomes even more complicated.
Episode 2 - "When You Least Expect It"- first aired on January 22, 2007 (United States), February 12, 2007 (Canada).
After a negative pregnancy test, Heidi can finally breathe easy...but she decides to let Spencer sweat it out in order to test his loyalty and gauge the Audrina factor.
At Teen Vogue, Lisa Love asks her interns to work the Ashley Paige swimsuit fashion show. Since Whitney's school schedule gets in the way, Lauren's left to fend the fashion world by herself until Whitney is free.
When Spencer picks Heidi up for their talk, she reveals the possibly pregnancy to see how he'll react. He calms her concerns, telling her he "more than likes her," and that as captain of Team Heidi, he'll stand by any decision. Happy with his answer, she tells him they're in the clear. Although relieved Heidi isn't pregnant, Spencer admits to being angry at the set- up, claiming Audrina is nowhere in the picture.
Back in the Hills, Heidi tells Lauren that her pregnancy plan worked. After Lauren's eye-rolling, Heidi shares her next brilliant idea - setting Lauren up with Spencer's best friend, Brody. Lauren scoffs at the idea, saying he's been "tainted" by another Laguna lady, Kristin. But, according to Heidi, it's too late - she's already given out her friend's digits.
At Ashley Paige's studio, Lauren gets thrown into fashion-production head first. After picking the wick out of a magic candle, Lauren starts piling on responsibilities. She ven gets to leave her own mark on the runway by stitching flowers onto an umbrella accessory.
Meanwhile, a not-so-out-of-the-picture Audrina receives a phone call from Spencer. When he asks her to grab dinner, she refuses, afraid of creating more beet with Heidi.
Before the fashion show, Lauren preps the models for the runway, tying suits and keeping the girls in line. After a successful showing, Ashley compliments her work, asking if she could steal her from Lisa's team. Lisa later compliments Lauren on a job well done, suggesting she follow a fashion show from pre-production to the runway.
With her luck on the rise, Lauren prepares for a date with Brody. Although her expectations for the evening are low, a trip to Social with her new guy leaves her giddy and glowing. Charmed by his compliments, Lauren leaves their date all smiling.
Episode 3 - "The Best Night Ever" - first aired on January 29, 2007 (U.S.), February 19, 2007 (Canada)
It's Heidi's birthday, and she can cry if she wants to... or neglect to invite Audrina to the party. When Heidi and Lauren shop for their outfits for the evening, Heidi makes it clear that her old friend, Audrina, is not on the guest list.
Over lunch, Brody asks Lauren about her past with Jason. Lauren shrugs off the topic, saying she was fed up with her ex's antics, and when she returns the questions his way, Brody says he never stays single for long, having hopped between Kristin and Nicole to where he stands now. A self-admitted cuddle king, Brody admits to jumping into relationships quickly when he meets someone special.
Working at Epic Records, Audrina confides in another intern about the Heidi situation. While Heidi may think something has brewing with her and Spencer, Audrina claims to have a clean slate, calling Spencer a pig. She decides to head to the party uninvited in a last-ditch effort to save their friendship.
Getting glammed up for the night ahead, Heidi and Lauren spend a day at the salon. As the two cheers to 'The best night ever,' Heidi hopes Audrina will stay at home.
At the club, Lauren serves her friend a huge cake complete with candles. As Heidi makes a wish, Spencer pushes Brody to start making moves on Lauren. Likewise, Heidi tells her best friend to take a risk and jump into things, even if she isn't completely over her breakup.
When Audrina shows up at the club, Heidi opts to ignore her. While Lauren makes the move to say hello, Audrina has to chase Heidi down to say Happy Birthday. Trying to set things straight, Audrina brings up the awkwardness between them, but Heidi will have none of it on her birthday. The birthday princess shrugs the situation off, saying the two will talk about it later. When Jen Bunney makes a move to hash things out, Audrina ends up leaving in tears.
Later at Teen Vogue, Audrina asks Lauren to lunch. Dragging Whitney along for the ride, the threesome meet for food and Audrina tries to draw an explanation out of Lauren. While she won't give much information on the situation with Heidi, the two agree that they can at least be friends.
On another night at Area, Heidi and Lauren meet up with Spencer and Brody for drinks as Audrina looms in the background. As Audrina tells her friends she's sick of fighting, Spencer ask Heidi not to let the Audrina drama come between them.
As the drama between Audrina and Heidi continues to heat up, sparks start flying with Lauren and Brody, who get considerably more comfortable at the club. Brody later takes her home to his bachelor pad, where he shows her his balcony and leads her into their first kiss.
Episode 4 - "Who Do You Trust?" - first aired on February 5, 2007 (U.S.), February 26, 2007 (Canada).
After Heidi's birthday blowout, it's time to put the pieces back together in the Hills. While Lauren isn't so sure she's ready for a relationship with Brody, Heidi is finally feeling secure with Spencer...so secure that she agreed to meet with Audrina to mend their relationship.
Back at Bolthouse, Heidi asks Brent for vacation time to visit her mom. Making her way back to her desk, Heidi gets a call from a production assistant, Max, who warns that her dress might be inappropriate for work.
Getting wind of Max's comments at lunch, Spencer swings into protective boyfriend mode, hoping to give Max a piece of his mind at the club. But, Spencer doesn't have to wait long to confront Max - when the Bolthouse employee rolls up to the same restaurant for food, Spencer gets in his face. When Max calls the angry boyfriend a tool and walks away, Spencer tells him to walk in front of a car.
At dinner with Audrina, Heidi explains why she's kept Audrina at an arm's length. Adurina sets the story straight with her side, assuring Heidi that Spencer's not her type. Sending up the caution flag, Audrina warns her friend to be careful of Spencer's shady behavior.
Heading home for her mom's birthday, Heidi asks Lauren to look out for Spencer at the club. Hoping to get the real deal on her boyfriend, she wants to send Lauren in as a spy.
When a crowd of blond playmates roll into Spencer's house that night, it looks as though Heidi's 'crazy jealous' feelings are warranted. As Spencer pinky swear confirms a naked picnic with a playmate and proposes marriage in Vegas to her friend, Heidi unexpectedly arrives at the club, having missed her plane.
When Heidi's Bolthouse friend warns her about the bunnies with her boyfriend, she storms into the club. After talking to one of the blondes, Heidi is warned about Spencer yet again. Caught red handed, Spencer tries to smooth the situation with a hug, but Heidi says she doesn't care what he does. Grabbing Lauren, she tears out of the club. Spencer tries calling her later that evening, but Heidi refuses to talk to him. Lauren lays down the law while Heidi screams, "I'm over you" in the background. But, when Lauren hangs up, it's clear that Heidi's heartbroken. Having been burned by a boy before, Lauren tells Heidi that they're too young to fall in love.
Episode 5 - "One Big Interruption" - first aired on February 12, 2007 (U.S.), March 5, 2007 (Canada).
After the playmate fiasco at the club, Audrina is back on Heidi's good side and Spencer is finally getting called out on his two-timing behavior. On the couch, the girls catch up on the night before and Heidi calls Spencer on speakerphone to clear up his shady dealings with Audrina. But when Spencer flips the heat onto her, the girls tell Heidi that the boy can't be trusted.
At Teen Vogue, Lisa Love tells her interns that there's a dinner party to plan, and the New York intern, Emily, will be flying over to help. Meanwhile, at Bolthouse, Heidi takes a phone call from Spencer. When he asks why she hasn't returned his calls, Heidi reminds him about the night before and tells Spincer she needs a week to clear her head.
When Emily arrives at the office, she wasts no time in taking control over the intern room. Rattling off a long 'to-do' list, the New York super intern has mapped out a path to party planning success. In the car to the florist, the two talk about the chinoiserie-inspired event. When Lauren asks about the intern's life, Emily reveals a power-house schedule of 18 credits at NYU, two days at Teen Vogue, and a day at Chanel.
Out for a girl's night, Lauren, Heidi and Jen go on a boy bashing binge. Lauren claims she's totally over Jason, only craving a boyfriend when she needs strong arms or help picking out electronics. When Spencer texts Heidi, the girls threaten to throw her sidekick away. Although they all agree he's not a nice guy, Heidi later admits to still missing her man and wanting to give him a second chance.
On the night of the dinner party, the interns make the final touches on the table. Although Lauren thinks there may be too many flowers, Emily and the others give the presentation their stamp of approval. But, when Lisa walks in, she agrees that the flowers are too much, telling the girls to pull half of them out. Giving the final instructions, the boss tells Emily she's earned a seat at the table, but Lauren and Whitney are to go home for the night. Bummed about missing the evening, the two grab burgers.
Meanwhile, at the Hillside Villas, a dressed up Heidi meets Spencer at his car. Despite all the warnings from her friends, it seems that Heidi is glutton for relationship punishment.
Episode 6 - "You Have Chosen" - first aired on February 19, 2007 (U.S.)
Lately in the Hils, Heidi is all for giving out second chances. After making amends with Audrina, she's willing to give her smooth-talking boyfriend, Spencer, another try.
Hearing the news, Lauren can't keep her mouth shut. Even though she's worried about Heidi's reaction, Lauren tells her friend not to repeat the same mistakes she made with Jason. Heidi swears Spencer can't compare to her friend's situation, but a teary-eyed Lauren thinks Spencer spells disaster.
Over lunch with Spencer, Heidi spills the beans and shares Lauren's true feelings about him. Lauren hasn't enlisted on Team Spencer, and Heidi's afraid their friendship will suffer the consequences. Since he started off on the wrong foot with Lauren, Heidi tells her boy he needs to prove himself to her best friend.
When Heidi returns home to the Villas, she presents Lauren with a dozen roses courtesy of Spencer. Although the flowers where originally meant for Heidi, she pawns them off as a peace offering. But, Lauren isn't impressed, asking if Audrina is going to receive a dozen long stems the next day. When Heidi heads out for a slumber party with Spencer, Lauren is less than thrilled.
That night, Lauren heads to Audrina for dinner. The two chat about Heidi's decision to keep up her relationship with Spencer, and agree that their friend is in over her head. When Lauren later talks over the situation with Whitney, it's clear that Lauren feels as though she's losing her best friend.
In an effort to keep ties with her friends, Heidi heads to Area with Lauren and Spencer. The two are laughing and having a good time, but when Audrina and Lauren spot Spencer turning on the charm with yet another girl, Lauren wants to grab Heidi and bolt. On the way out, Spencer pulls Lauren aside. He hopes to make peace, trying to explain his side, but only ends up alienating Lauren even more by yelling at her. As Lauren gets in a cab to go home, Heidi comforts Spencer and he swears he'll never go near Lauren again.
Since desperate times call for desperate measures, Lauren tries approaching Brody about the situation. Almost in tears, she tries to explain her side of the story. Brody wishes she'd let the couple be, but Lauren can't let Spencer's past transgressions go.
Back at the apartment, Heidi decides to bite the bullet and approach Lauren. While Heidi is upset the two have been distant, Lauren says she regrets ever opening her mouth about Spencer. Although Heidi argues that Lauren's the most important person in her world, Lauren argues she should be devoting more time to her. Heidi hates the awkwardness, but makes the situation even more heated when she confesses the roses from Spencer weren't really meant for Lauren. After hitting her breaking point, Lauren storms away, and Heidi starts packing her bags for a stay at Spencer's.
Episode 7 - "With Friends Like These..." - first aired on February 26, 2007 (U.S.)
There's heartbreak in the Hills and Spencer is the culprit... only this time, Heidi isn't his victim.
When Heidi and Jen Bunney go shopping, Jen asks to go on a double date with Heidi and Spencer... with Brody as her arm candy for the evening. Although Jen's concerned that Lauren might not warm up to the idea, Heidi argues that Jen should go with the flow and do what she wants.
On the flip side, an excited Lauren tells Whitney that she can't wait to celebrate Jen's twenty-first birthday at the club. The two have been best friends since third grade, and have become especially close since Heidi headed out of their home in the Hills and into Spencer's apartment. Although Lauren isn't looking forward to seeing Spencer, she's ready to spend some more quality time with Brody and her best friends.
As Spencer and Brody cruise around the city, Spencer tells his buddy that he needs to catch a girlfriend quickly so they can double date. He puts the feelers out for Jen Bunney's birthday party, and Brody is up for the idea, saying he wouldn't mind macking with the brunette.
At Jen's birthday dinner, Lauren toasts to her oldest friend in the world, presenting her with a diamond martini glass bracelet for her twenty-first. Jen is overwhelmed by the gesture, but quickly turns and whispers to Heidi, wondering whether or not Brody is going to make an appearance. When Heidi says yes, Jen worried about Lauren, but Heidi pushes Jen to seal the deal, ASAP.
At the club, Spencer tells Jen that he brought Brody as her birthday present. Jen keeps asking Heidi if the hookup will hurt Lauren, but Heidi tells her friend to do what she wants on her birthday. Thinking Brody might not be the best idea, Jen tells him he might want to leave her side, and Brody says he doesn't want to deal with drama. Lauren scoots over and sits next to Jen, but while Lauren talks to Audrina, Heidi orchestrates the hookup with Jen.
Although Lauren says she wants to stay until Jen leaves, Jen slips out of the club and into Brody's condo with Heidi, Spencer, and Brody.
The next morning at Teen Vogue, the girls prep a meeting room and Lauren tells Whitney that she received a late night phone call from Jen asking for permission to hook up with Brody. Lauren is furious and hurt, tired of having her friends screw her over.
When Jen tries calling her to explain the situation, Lauren tells her to stop making excuses and putting the blame on Heidi. When Jen turns on the attitude, Lauren tells her to make sure she's not at her apartment when she gets home. As Jen calls again, Whitney suggests that Lauren might want to spend some time evaluating her friendships.
Back at home, Heidi strolls in to talk over the night before. Although she claims she had nothing to do with the hook up, Lauren says she won't want to live in their apartment if Heidi continues her downward spiral as a friend. Heidi says she can't understand why Bunny isn't on the chopping block, but Lauren assures Heidi that she's not speaking to Jen.
Although Heidi argues that Lauren put up a wall between them because of Spencer, Lauren insists Spencer has brainwashed Heidi and she's tired of begging for her best friend's attention. A tear-streaked Lauren says she hasn't been so betrayed by best friends in a long time, and that their friendship won't be back to normal until Spencer is out of the picture.
Episode 8 - "Enough Is Enough" - first aired on March 5, 2007 (U.S.)
After the Jenn Bunney birthday fiasco, Heidi is looking to prove her worth as Lauren's friend by making more girl time. But, when Spencer suggests a weekend getaway to Santa Barbara, Heidi is quick to sign up to the trip.
At Teen Vogue, Lisa Love tells Whitney and Lauren that they'll be helping Lawren Howe, Vogue's West Coast Fashion Editor, on a photo shoot. When Lisa asks if they know any LA teens with 'the look', Whitney offers up her younger sister, Jade. While Lauren thinks the shoot is a good opportunity, Whitney wants more responsibility. After five years as a fashion intern, she's tired of low-level jobs.
Back in the Hills, Heidi comes to pack for her trip to Santa Barbara. Planning to be out until Sunday, she suggests she and Lauren schedule a date for Monday.
Walking around LA, Audrina asks Lauren if she'd like to go on a double date with her new guy, Chris, and his hockey-player friend, Blake. Although Lauren is a little skeptical of the setup, she looks forward to meeting a normal "guy's guy."
In Santa Barbara, Heidi and Spencer walk the beach and Spencer suggests they stay another night. Although Heidi worried that Lauren will be mad, Spencer assures her that if the tables were turned, Lauren wouldn't think twice about leaving her behind.
On the way to the double date, Lauren warns Audrina that it's her fault if the new dude doesn't measure up to expectations. But, when her date, Blake, wants dessert first, Lauren thinks he might just be her kind of guy. Although the hockey stud doesn't ask for her number, he asks if the group can go out again, and Lauren's left thinking she's getting better at the dating game.
At the photo shoot, Whitney starts to complain when Lawren Howe nitpicks on the set. Standing by her sister gets primped while posing, she can't help but get frustrated. Eager to work as a stylist, she's sick of intern tasks like cutting off tags and holding pins. When Lawren tells the girls they'll need to stay late to pack up, Whitney explains she has a farewell dinner for her sister, but Lawren doesn't seem to care. Lauren steps up to the plate and volunteers, saying she doesn't mind helping out if Whitney needs to leave beforehand.
On her way home, Lauren receives a call from Audrina, who says the boys want to have another dinner date at Café Sushi, but Lauren opts out because of her plans with Heidi. When she arrives home, she finds a note from her roommate, who bailed on their Lauren/Heidi date to go to the movies with Spencer. A frustrated Lauren calls Audrina, hoping to firm up new plans for the evening.
Episode 9 - "New Year, New Friends" - first aired on March 12, 2007 (U.S.)
It's time to bring in the New Year and Lauren wants to spend the eve with her closest friends... which means Spencer is not on the limo roster.
When Heidi and Spencer head on a shopping trip, the two firm up their plans for the evening. While the two are planning on having a dinner out by themselves, Heidi wants to meet up with Lauren at Area for the countdown. Although Spencer says he's done with Heidi's 'best friend', Heidi argues that it's unfair for him to make her choose between them. But, Spencer seems hell-bent on breaking the two apart, asking Heidi to move in with him. Although Heidi says she'd love to, she stands behind her commitment to live with Lauren.
As Lauren, Heidi and Audrina primp for New Years Eve at the salon, Lauren shares her hopes for a midnight kiss with a new boy she's found. Although he's not her normal type, she's excited about the change in pace. As Lauren and Audrina talk about a pizza and champagne pre-party, Heidi feels left out of the fun.
At dinner, Spencer says he wants to forget the club and just take Heidi home. Bringing up the move-in offer yet again, Spencer says he's tired of Lauren getting in the way of their relationship. Although Heidi says she'll be ready to move in down the line, she's trying to keep both her man and her best friend happy.
During the pre-party, Lauren's friend Lo asks about Heidi's boyfriend. She's already heard that Spencer's bad news from the gossip mill, but Lauren and Audrina tell her to form her own opinion.
When the group rocks in the new year at Area, Lauren snuggles up to her date. But while Lauren, Audrina, and Lo are having fun and sharing laughs, Heidi stands on the side with Spencer. But, when Lo comes up to Heidi and the two talk about Spencer, Heidi shares her possible move-in plans with the boyfriend. As the group heads out for the night, Heidi and Spencer are left behind and Lauren hadn't even said goodbye.
At Bolthouse, Heidi catches her co-worker up on the night before, saying she was disappointed that she didn't spend too much time with Lauren, who was pre-occupied with Audrina all night. Meanwhile, Lauren tells Whitney that she missed spending time with Heidi on the eve, saying she barely saw her best friend for more than two minutes.
When Lauren and Lo go out to dinner, Lo says she's excited to be back in LA. The two are laughing it up over sushi until Lo drops the moving bomb on Lauren, explaining that Heidi had said Spencer asked her to move in with him. Lauren's left side- swiped by the info, having heard nothing about Heidi wanting out.
Episode 10 - "Apology Not Accepted" - first aired on March 19, 2007 (U.S.)
Lauren's turning 21 and Heidi has big plans for the birthday bash. But, before she can get to the party details, Heidi decides its time to tell Lauren about Spencer's big idea to move in together. When she breaks the news, Heidi doesn't receive the response she expects - Lauren's already heard about the plan from Lo. And, although Heidi's excited by the offer, Lauren says she'd be creeped out if a guy she'd only been dating a few months asked her to move in.
Heidi may not have surprised Lauren with Spencer's offer, but she's hell-bent on making sure Lauren has no idea about her birthday celebration. When Heidi and Audrina get together to go over their logistics, Heidi decides she'll pretend to bail on Lauren after a phone call from Spencer. Then, while she runs off to get everything sorted at the club, Audrina will swoop in and take Lauren to the surprise party.
At Bolthouse, Jen pops in to talk to Heidi about her fight with Lauren. Hoping to get some info from Heidi, Jen asks if Lauren may be ready to talk out the Brody fiasco. But, Heidi continues to give Bunney the cold shoulder, wanting nothing to do with the situation. Although Jen argues that whole fight has been blown out of proportion, Heidi shrugs off her please, saying she has too much work to do.
While Lauren gets ready for the party, Heidi gets an 'emergency call' from Spencer and says she has to bolt. An angry Lauren tells Heidi to stop leaving her for Spencer - especially on her birthday - but Heidi keeps a straight face and heads out according to plan. As expected, Lauren calls Audrina, who offers to take her out.
When Lauren shows up at the club, she's floored by the surprise. Lauren's even more excited when she spots Brody at her birthday. The two flirt all night, and when Brody brings up Jen Bunney, Lauren explains that they're not speaking. When he starts to apologize, Lauren swears it's not his fault, happily snuggling up to him for the rest of the night.
The two later go out for lunch, where Bunney is brought up once again. Lauren confesses that Jen is no stranger to girl drama, having been tangled between friends and boys before. In fact, Jen even kissed Jason on the first night Lauren told her she was interested in the ex-bf.
At home in the Villas, Lauren gets an unexpected visit from Jen. When the two finally sit down to talk things over, Jen starts making excuses and playing the martyr, saying that she never meant to hurt Lauren. But, Lauren snaps back at Jen's lackluster apology, telling Jen she knew full-well what she was doing. Given Jen's history, she feels she has every reason not to trust her once best friend. When Jen gives on final apology, Lauren doesn't seem moved by the gesture, saying there's nothing Jen can do to make it up to her. Showing Jen to the door, it looks as though Lauren may have just closed a fifteen-year friendship.
Episode 11 - "Everyone Falls" - first aired on March 26, 2007 (U.S.) After putting in five years as an intern, Whitney's ready to rise to the next level in her career. When she talks to Lisa Love about her fashion plans post graduation, the editor explains that there's a spot open at Teen Vogue for a Fashion Contributor. But, although Whitney's put in her time and paid her dues, she faces heavy competition from some other Teen Vogue interns.
Spencer gets into a heated conversation with Heidi at his favorite restaurant, Don Antonio's. Bringing up his move-in proposal yet again, he can't quite understand why Heidi isn't ready to take the plunge. He's nonplussed when Heidi questions his loyalty, saying there can't be a repeat performance of the playboy incident.
Over at Teen Vogue, Whitney and Lauren join New York intern, Emily, at the Good Morning America fitting. While the girls dress the models, picking out slides and passing around gowns, Whitney grabs the attention of André Leon Talley, Vogue editor-at-large. Gushing over Whitney's long legs and facial features, Talley tells the intern that she's missed her calling as a model. Saying Whitney has 'the look', he insists she model for the Good Morning America show.
At Brody's condo, Heidi is frantically searching for her shoes so she can get to work. The missing shoes provide Spencer with the perfect segue into the move-in conversation. Arguing that Lauren is ruining their relationship, Spencer tells Heidi that he's ready to get serious and eliminate the stresses.
On the fashion front, Whitney gets dressed for the Good Morning America shoot, donning Hilary Swank's Oscar dress. But, as she makes her way down the stairs on live television, she trips and falls sideways in front of a national audience. Instead of running off mortified, Whitney sticks out the rest of the show wearing a smile, and as the cameras turn off, Andre Leon Talley tells her she was 'real'.
Although Whitney's afraid she let Lisa Love down, her West Coast editor assures her that she was great on the show. In fact, Amy Astley, Teen Vogue editor-in-chief, has written a letter and Anna Wintour, Vogue editor-in-chief, sent her stamp of approval via phone. Proud of Whitney's on-air recovery, Lisa Love decides to send her to New York for the fashion consultant interview.
At Bolthouse, Heidi gets a call from Spencer telling her to meet him outside in the alley. Upset with the unresolved living situation, he says he's ready to go to the next level and get rid of Lauren. When she asks if he just wants to be single, Spencer says he wouldn't ask her to move in if he was looking for an easy out. Heidi says, "My answer is no". To which Spencer says, "my answer is get out of my car".
Episode 12 - "Goodbye for Now" - first aired on April 02, 2007 (U.S.) Heidi decides to move in with Spencer after he suprises her with an apartment. Heidi agrees only after Spencer promises her that there won't be anymore "Playmate" incidents in the future. However in a later conversation in his (now former) suite with Brody, we learn that Spencer's primary motivation is to eliminate Lauren's influence in his and Heidi's relationship. But he assures his former roommate that moving in together won't stop him from being a "playboy" and that he'll never change his ways. Lauren's new roommate is Audrina, and she moves in the day Heidi moves out. Lauren brings home pizza and champagne to celebrate her new roommate and saying "There's no one else I'd rather live with." Heidi and Spencer celebrate them moving in together. However the season ends with Heidi staring down Spencer with the warning, "Don't make me regret this."
[edit] Controversy
There has been controversy over whether The Hills is scripted, or at least whether the situations that the cast members have gotten involved in were pre-planned in some way.[3] Some have said that the circumstances on the show (for instance, the cast members' personal and scheduling conflicts, or Lauren having gotten an internship at Teen Vogue with minimal experience) seem implausible. One TV critic wrote that "the situations and dialogue come straight from a page."[4] People associated with the show have denied this; the editor at Teen Vogue has said that Lauren was qualified for the job, and Lauren herself has claimed she "can't even read a script".[5]
However, many of Lauren's driving scenes seem planned as they often feature various shots from alternate angles covering her journey, and the show contains many possible "half-truths." The apartment complex where the cast lived is rumored not to be the Hillside Villas but Park La Brea, and Heidi is said to be an intern, not a full-time employee, at Bolthouse Productions. The casting itself may also be questionable. Whitney is the college roommate of Laguna Beach star Christina Schuller,[citation needed] while Brian worked on another MTV show called Damage Control, raising suspicions that they were cast because of their looks.
Adding to the list of hints that The Hills is scripted, in the second season finale, Spencer changes shirts with no mention of doing so. This continuity error takes place when Spencer invites Heidi to the new apartment. As Spencer is sitting on the front stoop, he is wearing a dark shirt with a skull of the chest. After the couple tours the apartment, Spencer is seen in a dark shirt with a different pattern, and no skull. This leads viewers to question when this wardrobe switch was made, and if the scene was recreated to get better footage of the occurrence.
