The King family are a fictional family appearing on the ITV soap opera Emmerdale.

The Kings first arrived in Emmerdale in 2004. As a family in general, they are ruthless money-seeking successful businessmen.

Thomas Albert "Tom" King (deceased) - Patriarch of the family, died in 2006. Played by Ken Farrington, 2004-2006.
Mary King (deceased) - Tom's first wife, who died in 1986.
James "Jimmy" King - Eldest son of Tom and Mary. Played by Nick Miles, 2004-.
Matthew King - Second son of Tom and Mary. Played by Matt Healy, 2004-.
Carl King - Third son of Tom and Mary. Played by Tom Lister, 2004-.
Sadie King - Jimmy's ex-wife. Played by Patsy Kensit, 2004-2006.
Colleen King - Carl's ex-wife and mother of his children. Played by Melanie Ash, 2004, 2005.
Maxwell Harold "Max" King (deceased) - Youngest son of Tom and Mary, died in 2005. Played by Charlie Kemp, 2005.
Georgina King - Daughter of Tom and Mary, estranged from her family and never seen on-screen.
Rosemary Venetia King - Tom's second wife. Played by Linda Thorson, 2006-.
Scarlett Mary Nicholls - Tom's illegitimate daughter with mistress Carrie Nicholls. Played by Kelsey-Beth Crossley, 2007-.
Thomas King - Son of Carl and Colleen. Played by Jack Ferguson, 2004, 2005, 2006.
Anya King - Daughter of Carl and Colleen. Played by Ceryen Dean, 2004, 2005, 2006.

Initially Tom King was the patriarch of his family, making sure everyone knew he was in charge both at home and within the family business, King and Sons. His eldest son Jimmy strived to be his second in command, working for his father since the age of 14, though Tom favoured Jimmy's wife Sadie and gave her important jobs, rather than giving them to Jimmy. Sadie later betrayed the family, and kidnapped Tom with the help of Cain Dingle, leading to her departure from the village.

Tom's second son, Matthew also wanted to have power within the business, and regularly came to blows with Jimmy about it. Tom's younger sons Carl and Max King (Emmerdale)Max were initially low down on the status scale, and Max didn't work for the company, instead working as a vet until his death in October 2005.

[edit] Relationships between the Kings

Tom/Jimmy = Tom doesn't trust Jimmy and disowned him after finding out Jimmy had slept with Tom's fiancee. Not particularly close.
Tom/Matthew = Recently Matthew tried coldheartedly to wrest control of the business from Tom. Not particularly close.
Tom/Sadie = Used to trust Sadie, now despises her as much as Jimmy does since realising she didn't love the family and cared only for their money.
Tom/Max = Tom was often ashamed of Max but always cared for him really and when Max died Tom broke down at the site of his death. Not close but still loved each other.
Tom/Carl = Tom trusts Carl. Carl is far less ruthlessand business obsessed than Matthew and far easier to deal with as a parent than the more difficult Max and Jimmy.
Jimmy/Max = Quite good relationship. Jimmy offered to take the blame when Max ran over Tom. relatively close
Matthew/Jimmy = Matthew and Jimmy have always had a strong rivalry and Matthew uses Jimmy in his schemes to get control of King & Sons. Not close.
Matthew/Carl = At ease with each other more than most of the King sibling pairings. Relatively close.
Sadie/Jimmy = Married but now hate each other. Jimmy recently took comfort from her though when Max died. Were close/now hate each other.
Max/Carl = Better sibling relationship than most of the Kings. They understood and loved each other a lot. Were close (Max deceased).
Jimmy/Carl = Again, better relationship than most. Carl now works for Jimmy against Sadie and Matthew.
