The Michigan Times

The Michigan Times is the student newspaper at the University of Michigan-Flint. Having been founded in 1956 as the University News, The Michigan Times has seen notables such as filmmaker Michael Moore and American Idol finalist LaKisha Jones[citation needed] on its staff.
In 2003, the university's literary magazine entitled "Qua" was incorporated in The Michigan Times. It has since been reduced from its original magazine form into a two-page spread.
The Michigan Times has a print run of 4,000 papers per 16 Editions each academic year (volume).
Former Layout Editor and writer John McKay, under the guidance of Editor-in-Chief Vanessa Ferguson spearheaded the publication's foray into the digital world, formally launching the Michigan Times website, www.themichigantimes.comin 2003. It marked the first time the newspaper has been available in a digital format.

In 2004, music writer John McKay received 2nd prize statewide from the Michigan Press Association for his album review of popular rock group The All-American Rejects' debut album. It is the first statewide recognition for the publication.
In November 2005, national syndicated radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh read a Michigan Times article on his show as part of his "Feminist Update." The article, "MSU professors link hunting with sexual violence" was written by Page W.H. Brousseau IV taken from the November 7, 2005 issue, and focused on a study by Michigan State University professors linking sexual violence with bow hunting.
