The Wish is a 2000 book by Gail Carson Levine. It tells the story of unpopular Wilma who gets a wish from an old lady and wishes to be popular. But only for a short time. Later on, the wish was gone and everthing turned back to the way it was before the wish. Wilma didn`t want this to happen partly because of Jared, but she did want it to happen because of Stephanie. Similar to Levine's earlier Ella Enchanted, and the "JUG-A-RUM" chapter of Bill Brittain's The Wish Giver (which is also similar in name).
