Tom Petersson (born Thomas Peterson, 9 May 1950, Rockford, Illinois) is the bassist for the rock band, Cheap Trick.
[edit] Career
Petersson contributes heavily to the writing of music and is credited as the inventor of the 12-string bass guitar, although only in concept. Jol Dantzig of Hamer Guitars was the actual builder of the first 12-string bass. It was Petersson's idea to expand the 8-string bass concept by adding one more additional octave string to each bass string. It is basically a four string bass with two octave strings tuned in unison just above the fundamental bass string.
Petersson sings lead vocals on "I Know What I Want" and on live versions of "Waitin' For The Man". He left Cheap Trick shortly after the recording of All Shook Up. During his time off from the band, he released the solo album Tom Peterson And Another Language.
However, Petersson rejoined Cheap Trick in 1988 for the band's Lap of Luxury album. He appeared on Frank Black's solo album, released in June 2006.
On 6 June 2006, Cheap Trick released their new studio album, Rockford, on Cheap Trick Unlimited/Big3 Records. The first single from the album was "Perfect Stranger" (produced by Linda Perry and co-written by Cheap Trick and Perry).
