Spanner Head |
The Tri-Wing is a type of screw and screw head. It is used as a quality tamper-proof screw on various products such as the Nintendo Game Boy and Wii.

[edit] Appearance
Tri-Wing, as the name suggests, is a screw with three "wings" and a small triangular hole in the center. It can also be called a triangular slotted screw. A common variation is a kind in which the three "wings" are joined in the center (with no triangular hole).
[edit] Tamper-resistant
The Tri-Wing is a tamper resistant screw because Tri-Wing screwdrivers are very hard to find in hardware stores, although they can legally be bought online. Nintendo uses this kind of screw in its Game Boy products to discourage home repair and modifications. Sanyo also uses Tri-Wing screws in its cell phones for the same reason.
