Triolin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Designed and built by Hal Rammel Surrealism (music) in 1991, the Triolin is an electroacoustic sound palette that can make many different sounds. He was inspired by the live electronics of cellist Russell Thorne and the amplified table top arrays of Hugh Davies. However, he wanted a hand held device. Wooden rods sit perpendicular around the outer edge of an artist's palette all amplified by a single contact microphone attached to the back of the instrument. The rods can be bowed, plucked, struck, or caressed to produce a surprising variety of sounds that may be at once organic or mechanical, delicate or ferocious. Some of these are published under Penumbra Records, a label based in Wisconsin dedicated solely to experimental music. There are a total of thirteen compact discs from this label, some of which feature Hal Rammel. His CD's on other labels can be found through the site as well.
