He became the first running back to gain 2,000 yards in two different seasons. He capped off his college career as the runner-up to Florida QB Danny Wuerffel in voting for the 1996 Heisman Trophy.
[edit] Professional career
Davis elected to forgo his senior season of college eligibility and declared for the 1997 NFL Draft. He was drafted in the 3rd round (62nd overall) by the New Orleans Saints, after posting the second lowest Wonderlic score among NFL prospects that year [1]. He played in the NFL for three years before joining the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CFL. During the 2005 season, Davis was traded to the Edmonton Eskimos in exchange for a package headlined by wide receiver Brock Ralph, defensive back Tay Cody, and a first-round pick in that year's draft. Davis played a key role in helping the Eskimos win the 93rd Grey Cup that year.
