Tuzla massacre was an incident which took place during Bosnian War in the northeastern Bosnian city of Tuzla in the early evening hours of May 25, 1995, when the Army of Republika Srpska shelled a gathering of young people in the city from their positions on Mt. Ozren. The shelling resumed the following morning.
72 people were killed and more than 200 were wounded. All of the victims were civilians and the majority were between the ages of 18-25.
Following the massacre the Army of Bosnia and Herzegovina launched an offensive on the Serb position where the shell came from. They captured the gun and 100 Serb soldiers; all of the POW were treated humanely and none were punished for the massacre. All were later exchanged for Bosniak civilians who were taken prisoner in Srebrenica in the following months.
