From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The name of the group carries its meaning, two young identical twins born in Ogun state that hail from the popular ancient city of Ibadan, Oyo state and presently based in Lagos Nigeria. They started music from the church in 1991, but their current style of music was influenced by Bob Marley, Fela Kuti, Ebenezer Obey etc.
Their first major effort was in 2001 titled Mother Mi, a song that became one of the greatest hit songs ever in Nigerian music. It was described as en evergreen song of all time; this has made the name Twin-X synonymous with motherhood. The effort got them award nominations including best upcoming artiste at The Era Awards 2001.
The group after setting up their 15 man band and successfully breaking into other African countries like Ghana and South Africa, they moved on to their next project which was the release of the hit album Plenty Money. This produced several chart busters that took their fame higher and took their dreams to the next level as they became ranked among most played Nigerian artistes in the UK, with a fan base that spreads across the hearts of Asia, Europe, and America. They were nominated for the best group at the Niche Awards 2005 and also won the award for the Best Duo at Gbedu Awards 2005. The same year they floated their own label called Deuce Records and got on the playlist of the BBC.
Twin-X have blended well their Yoruba culture into the pop/R&B world of singing, their voices carry a sonorous tone that makes you marvel at the composition of their lyrics and the way it is beautifully delivered, harmonies that are well put together, laced with good enough charm to melt even the thickest of souls and energetic dance steps on and off stage. Their music rises above ethnic and racial barriers and is appealing to the young, the old, and the world in general. They recently released two super hit singles titled Home & Away and Oya, the latter is a special dedication to their home town Ibadan.
