[edit] Route description
The highway enters Maryland across the Potomac River, and quickly enters downtown Williamsport, known as W Potomac St. Within the town limits, the route meets MD 68 and MD 63. After passing through the town, the route turns northeast and runs in a straight line across Interstate 81 before passing under Interstate 70 with no interchange. This portion of US 11 is known as Virginia Avenue and serves as a suburban arterial, cutting through the suburban neighborhoods located south of the I-70/I-81 interchange.
After entering Hagerstown, the route turns to the north and runs toward the downtown area before curving sharply to the east and to the north again to cross US 40, known locally as Burhans Boulevard. This segment of the route parallels several large railroad yards, as well as a large parcel of undeveloped land. In downtown Hagerstown, the route serves as a major north-south city street.
After passing through Hagerstown, the route meets Pennsylvania Avenue and follows it due north out of the town, eventually curving around the eastern boundary of Hagerstown Regional Airport. The route crosses into Pennsylvania parallel to I-81, meeting PA 163 at the Mason-Dixon Line.
