[edit] Bobber2
Hi; I see you've recently posted something on User:Bobber2's talk page. FYI, this is a "problem editor" that I've kind of been keeping my eye on for a while, and he hasn't used this name since the end of April. He now goes by User:Bobber1. He's almost completely unresponsive to messages on his talk pages (Bobber1 or Bobber2), so don't expect a reply. If you see a problem with one of his edits, especially copyvio, just go ahead and fix it, but keep an eye on the article, because he has a tendency to undo other editor's fixes. Thanks, Soundguy99 15:11, 15 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Question out of curiousity
Are you the same Ubermonkey who used to be on RPGnet? Just an uncommon name and all. Almafeta 03:47, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Gold Standard
The various criterion are listed, 1. Gold is the sole unit of account (otherwise is a bimetallic standard) 2. All circulating medium and legal tender is freely convertible to gold at a fixed rate. (otherwise there is fiat currency in circulation) 3. For a full gold standard all circulating medium is 100% backed by gold. (Otherwise the possibility of a bank run should there be a failure of confidence in the bank notes) 4. For the British gold standard of 1844-1871, the international gold standard of 1871-1913, and the Bretton woods standard of 1945-1971 there was also a monopoly of issuance and a monetary authority capable of setting interest rates to maintain relative gold pegs as well as acting as the lender of last resort. The Bretton Woods system was not a national gold standard because only some entities could freely convert circulating medium to gold (Which is why it is in a separate article).
The criterion listed confused Free banking with Gold standard. In actual historical practice, free banking is incompatible with a gold standard, since other issuing authorities almost always violate 3, and push for some other, more abundant, basis for issuance - usually silver - which violates 1. This leads to inflationary coinage by issuing authorities to take advantage of seinurage, and ends either with a panic or a period of very high inflation or even hyperinflation.

[edit] Re: Merrimack, New Hampshire
Just curious, I thought it was clear that East Merrimack wasn't actually a place except for the census on that article. Somebody might have changed it from when I put that back on there, but it was awhile ago. It's good to meet another Merrimack Wikipedian, now there's me, you and Ed Poor to my knowledge.
