Talk:UN-LOCODE
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For easier linking from outside to WP redirects of the form UN/LOCODE:USNYC have been implemented.
- uncomplete list (bug): Category:Redirects_from_UN/LOCODE
- full list: http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Allpages&from=UN/LOCODE
- if you wana see all redirects for one country, e.g. SE, see http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Allpages&from=UN/LOCODE:SE

People who worked on the two proposals:
[edit] Proposal 1: UN/LOCODE on city pages
Where to put it?
- if there is a table put it in the table.
UN/LOCODE: | USLAX |
Put a shortcut sign on every page?
- people could think this is ugly
- people that know UN/LOCODE will maybe try typing the UN/LOCODE, they do not need shortcut hint
[edit] Proposal 2: Redirect from UN/LOCODE-standard-link to city page
- with standardized links, other pages from outside can easier link to wikipedia
- with shortcuts people that know the UN/LOCODE can faster get to an article
[edit] Design of standard links
see also: Geocode
name / shortcut / resume / vote | pros | cons |
---|---|---|
FULL | exactest, no conflicts, promotes the origen of the code, no need for further explanation, system of mentioning the codebase can be used for other standards to implement standard links, possibility to publish info about the Locodes for one country e.g.: UN/LOCODE:US (similiar to ISO 3166-2:US) | longest, no shortcut-msg possible on city page |
LOCODE
LOCODE:USLAX |
shorter, no slash | |
LOC
LOC:USLAX |
is SHORTcut, possible use for other codes,
|
use for other codes has conflicts because of different 2-letter country codes and different subcountry codes systems |
GEO
GEO:USLAX |
same as LOC but sounds more like geography, can be used in other language wikipedia, because "geo" exist in a lot of languages. | same as loc |
DIRECT
USLAX whatever you do else, there is no problem to add this kind of redirects. Supported by Tobias Conradi |
shortest, no conflict with general wikipedia-style |
|
[edit] Which locations to standard-link / shortcut
- Check http://www.unece.org/cefact/locode/unlocode_manual.pdf
- section 3.6 function -
- section 3.7 status - everything with A-status except AQ should be fine
- Naming conflicts
- ?
[edit] Templates
[edit] Progress
Start with
- US cities,
- wikipedia-naming for US should be unambigous
- only link what is in Rambot-Database
- Cities of english speaking countries
- less problem to find the right redirect target
- Capital cities
[edit] Credit to Consumerium
If I checked the facts correctly (please bash me if I didn't), the article moved from Consumerium to WP consisted of one paragraph, and the main substance of the WP article has been added after that. I would not say, therefore, that the article "is" adapted, but that it once "was" adapted, and modified since. Moreover, I feel that crediting Consumerium with a phrase about as long as the content originally moved is less about giving due credit that about promoting Consumerium and its POV. Therefore, I propose to modify or eliminate this phrase. What does the community feel about this? --DrTorstenHenning 08:50, 29 August 2005 (UTC)
Consumerium can only be two sentences: [1] I removed the credit. Tobias Conradi (Talk) 08:41, 31 August 2005 (UTC)
