[edit] Picture
Does anybody know if the picture from univie.ac.at can be used for wikipedia?
Or is there any other (possibly brighter) picture, that could be added to this site.
- There is a good picture on the German Wikipedia, which you could just upload to commons:. / up+land 17:19, 9 Feb 2005 (UTC)
[edit] "Full university" status
Is it entirely fair to describe it as "not a full university" has it has separated its medical section? Full university status in the UK does not require a medical school (although most of those that top rankings have one). Is this an Austrian convention? Wee Jimmy 00:41, 1 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Contradiction
Was the University founded in 1385 or 1365? Greenshed 11:48, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
In 1365, Rudolf IV sanctioned a deed of foundation for studies to doctoral level in Vienna on the model of the University of Paris. However, Pope Urban V did not ratify the deed to also found a Faculty of Theology, presumably due to pressure exerted by the Emperor who wished to avoid competition to Prague University. In 1384, papal agreement was finally received and Vienna University was extended to a full university, also including the fourth faculty, Theology. The first university building opened in 1385. versity of Pisa was founded in 1343, and that of Vienna in 1365. Why is it mentioned that the University of Vienna is the oldest in central europe?
- The University of Vienna is the second oldest in Central Europe, behind Charles University in Prague, and this does not concern the University of Pisa because the University of Pisa is not located in Central Europe by any definition of the term. Elpato 21:49, 16 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Is this the university, late 19th - early 20th C?
A gravestone, probably in Vienna's Zentralfriedhof, describes the deceased as "PROFESSOR AN DER WIENER UNIVERSITAT 1880 - 1912" – would this refer to the University of Vienna or need I seek further confirmation? -- Thanks, Deborahjay 12:04, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
- Most probably yes. As far as I know the University of Vienna was at that time the only institution named "Universität" in Vienna, the other today's unversities were called "Hochschule" or other names or had not existed yet. Vheissu 16:17, 7 January 2007 (UTC)
