[edit] Bad manners
Why do you insult the citizens of other countries? Imagine someone had a user box like yours on the EU and UN on Canada or Nepal. It's just bad manners. ROGNNTUDJUU! 19:58, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- Uh, read more carefully. I'm a CITIZEN of the EU. Also, the EU isn't a country, it's a political organization of which various countries are members. I have nothing against the individual countries in the EU, including my own (Estonia), but I don't like the undemocratic, elitist federation the EU is trying to become. Also, there's nothing about the United Nations on my user page.
-
- Hello, thanks for your answer. You put it on my user page by accident, please use my talk page next time. Ok, seems you saw it yourself now. No, I did not think you were from Nepal, just used that example in order not to make people think I wanted to create some US/EU case out of this. Many users who had the symbol were from the UK by the way. I saw the Canadian flag and thought you were from there. There is a similar user box for the UN that is currently suggested for deletion. Many users have both boxes and I copied my message from one of them for you and just chose your country as an example, sorry for that. I know mass messages are not encouraged but it is a serious problem if people leave symbols on their pages others might find offensive, and the more people remove it individually the more likely it will be removed altogether. I regard it as more respectful to first talk to the people than to just get them a red link after deletion. You have all my understanding for your misgivings about the EU. I just think you should not cross an official symbol that represents a union of countries with many hundred million citizens some of whom identify with the symbol and might get offended. You can easily express your legitimate opinion with for example a red question mark to the right of the stars and a little statement what you do not like about the EU. If you just give a cross over the flag some might think you disrespect the people who live there. ROGNNTUDJUU! 22:48, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

- That's just plain ridiculous. The European Union (or the United Nations, for that matter is NOT a country! Unless you're squatting in the bathroom of the European Parliament in Brussels, you don't live in a political body either. The very concept of free speech demands first and foremost that the citizens of any country have a right to crticize whatever ruling body governs over them, not to mention any NGOs their government belongs to. By your logic, criticism of any NGO is a faux pas because their member states have people living in them. Would you crusade against anti-NAFTA userboxes, or anti-WTO userboxes as well? - You remove my criticism from your talk page because you consider it answered? You're the one going around soliciting debate, and FYI, debate doesn't work like that. You can't declare yourself correct and then erase all record of it ever taking place. Go google "The Comissar Vanishes". Unigolyn 23:00, 4 March 2006 (UTC)
- I answer at other users' talk pages and try to keep the discussion together. Many users keep their pages tidy I have seen - what should be wrong with it? If someone wants to check, it all remains in the history.
- Of course you have the right to criticze, I just think you should not cross an official symbol of an entity representing several hundred million people. An NGO is something different because it only represents its members who chose to take part, not whole countries. I do not see the point in making disparaging remarks about NGOs though, either. If you have legitimate criticism you can express it in a respectful way. ROGNNTUDJUU! 23:11, 4 March 2006 (UTC)

- You're erasing proof of your mass-harassment of Wikipedia users. How on Earth would anyone find their way on my (or any others you've bothered) talk page if you delete my legitimate criticism from your talk page? Unless I was vandalizing your talk page, which I wasn't, you can't delete ongoing debates! If you're worried about the tidiness of your page, feel free to clean it up once the debate you yourself solicited has been resolved. The EU is NOT a country, for crying out loud. People do not live in the EU. People live in countries that are members of the economic and political organization called the European Union. For what it's worth, I voted FOR my country's accession into said organization, but now regret it as it has proven to be an anti-democratic, elitist, strongarming entity that could care less about the will of the people it supposedly serves. - Feel free to state your opinion. Please do it in a respectful way. You do live in the EU, and you are an EU citizen who is subject to EU legislation.
- I do not erase evidence, it is all in the history. As I was asking about an image many users used many will be clever enough to imagine that they were not the only one I asked. ROGNNTUDJUU! 00:01, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

- Okay, genius, what's the legislative body of the EU called, and name any EU laws in effect in any member state. The EU does not pass laws that apply to the individual citizens of the member states. It passes directives that the member states must adhere to. The member states then legislate in accordance with said directives, or opt out of the EU. And stop this idiocy. Face up to the fact that you misunderstood the anti-EU stance to be an anti-Europe stance. If there was a user group dedicated to not trusting any European as far as they can throw them, I'd join you in your crusade (if I didn't have something more important to do, like my laundry). It's obviously not the case and you're making yourself look like an idiot by continuing to argue about it. Unigolyn 00:11, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

- I find that sarcasm becomes necessary to get your attention when you brazenly refuse to debate honestly and keep deleting everything off your talk page. These talk pages are not instant messaging programs - I am not interested in chatting with you. You have mass-posted your uninformed and indiscriminate criticism on a number of users' talk pages, and refuse to debate the merits of your criticism publicly, the correct place for which would be YOUR talk page, not the individual talk pages of the users you're harassing. Now, either stop deleting things you consider "answered", or go to IRC if you're looking for social amusement. And for all that is holy, don't delete this but answer it, then leave your answer up as a warning to others not to bother posting anything here as it's definitely counterproductive to any semblance of rational discussion. Unigolyn 00:18, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- As you might have noticed, I do reply, just not at my talk page. Especially not when those who come there write in a respectless that would harm their own reputation if others saw it. If you do not want to chat as you say just stop writing to me. ROGNNTUDJUU! 00:28, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- WHY for the love of god is your talk page to be kept pristine but you're fully entitled to vandalize mine? If you want respect, behave HONESTLY, and don't provoke people by claiming they're insulting whole nations of people by not trusting an unelected political body. Unigolyn 00:32, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- I do not vandalize your talk page, I just answer your questions and once pointed out to you that you violated wikipedia policy by using a divisive user box whose picture has now been speedy deleted. Feel free to paste our discussion at my talk page everytime you answer, just do not expect me to leave it there when I answer. The EU was formed by its member governments just as the UK or the US were formed by elected representatives - or in the UK case by an unelected monarchy. If you want to complain about lack of democracy, feel free to do so, just do not cross official symbols that represent other people. ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:16, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
-
-
- And yet a pro-EU userbox is NOT divisive? Are you aware of the fact that EU supporters are a slim majority at best? I fail to see how crossing out a symbol to express opposition to what the symbol stands for is "divisive" or "disparaging". Are no-smoking signs an insult to smokers and their character? Unigolyn 01:14, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- It is not about pro or contra, it is about respect. Crossing an official symbol is respectless. And I hope as a smoker you do not feel represented by your cigarettes as EU citizens are represented by their flag. ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:23, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- Who, other than you (or the ridiculous talking point you seem to have morphed yourself into), are these mythical EU citizens whose self-worth is represented in voodoo-doll fashion by the flag of the EU? You're a citizen of the Netherlands, not the EU, as the EU is NOT A COUNTRY. Unigolyn 01:28, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- I am no citizen of the Netherlands but a citizen of the EU, and I cannot see why crossing a flag that represents the citizens of several countries should be more respectful than that of just one country. ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:30, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- What country's passport do you hold? Your IP address traces back to the Netherlands. Maybe you're just visiting. What if I cross out an image of the planet Earth if I happen to become anti-globalization sometime in the future? Am I being disrespectful to all humans then, as we all obviously live on this planet? Unigolyn 01:37, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- You must have mistyped, the last time I visited the Netherlands I did not even know about the internet - doubt it existed. The planet earth is no official symbol. I however hope you have something more reasonable to do with your time than crossing out our planet. How about becoming a nuclear scientist? ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:45, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- How about you stop being petulant and answer my question about your dubious claim of being a citizen of no countr at all. Are you posting from Gitmo or something? Unigolyn 01:48, 5 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] My talk page philosophy
You seem to be misunderstanding your own policy. You stated something on your talk page. I replied. Then you copied it over to my talk page...why exactly? Please answer here, as it has nothing whatsoever to do with my talk page, unlike the previous discussion inititated by you on there, which, I'll grant, falls under your policy of "talk where the discussion began". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Unigolyn (talk • contribs).
- I already explained it at my talk page, but again: I prefer discussions to be kept together. Thus, I encourage you to paste the whole discussion to my page if you answer, I will do the same at your talk page if I answer. Seems the only system to me that allows everyone to follow the whole discussion easily. And it allows not to watch all users' pages where you left a note. ROGNNTUDJUU! 01:37, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
- The discussions were separate, though. I replied to something you said ON YOUR TALK PAGE, and I fail to see why it has to be included in the previous discussion which you've copied to my talk page. Unigolyn 01:39, 5 March 2006 (UTC)
