USS Cayuga
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Three ships in the United States Navy have been named USS Cayuga for one of the six Iroquois tribes.
- The first Cayuga was a screw steamer launched in 1861 and served during the American Civil War.
- The second Cayuga was originally the tug Powhatan and renamed in 1917.
- The third Cayuga (LST-1186) was an amphibious ship launched in 1969 and decommissioned in 1994. The Cayuga was also featured in a Hollywood film about a fictional B-747 which crashed off course outside the Bermuda triangle. Also central to the movie was the Navy's dive and rescue team "The Magicians" stationed in Florida.
- A destroyer named USS Cayuga has appeared as a location in the television show JAG. Her part is played by USS Arleigh Burke (DDG-51).
