Template talk:Vain
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[edit] Purpose of the template
I created this template as alternative to VfD'ing suspected vanity articles. It's my view that removing vanity articles is not the sort of thing that should require the effort of pre-obtaining community consensus. Instead, they can simply be replaced with this template. This allows the suspected vanity page to stay in history, so that other users can revert it if it was done incorrectly (the organic form of consensus-building which serves every other part of the Wiki well).
I believe that blanking vanity pages created in good faith is better than deleting them, whether by consensus or speedily, in every case. Deletion should be reserved for pages which contain copyrighted material, nonsense, personal attacks, or other things which harm Wikipedia by their presence.
I think the wording of the template could probably be improved a lot, and probably its usage, so please comment on it! Eliot 16:15, 8 August 2005 (UTC)
